Self transfer bcn-cdg-bos no checked bags

***update
Well basically everything that could go wrong did and I still ended up making it. First leg delayed 25 min, then no gate open so had to take a shuttle, then cdg border system collapsed for about 30 min and then found there’s no way to walk airside from 2F to 2B - and the blue shuttle goes only one direction so had to do a full lap around the airport which took 40 min. Basically a disaster and I arrived right around departure assuming the gate would be closed. Luckily the issue with the border/immigration system caused them to have to take off and recheck a lot of bags and they kept the gate open while they did that. So I made it but out of pure luck and wouldn’t do it again!

I have a flight from bcn to cdg then a different airline from cdg to bos. Not checking bags have boarding passes for both flights. I land at 2f and leave cdg from 2b. Can I do this without exiting and going back thru security etc? I have a short window

how short is your 'short' window? We flew from Zurich thru CDG to Detroit back in fall 2023. There was a bus from the gate we landed at to get us to the other terminal and then go thru a long line at passport control (don't remember there being security). By the time we got to our departure gate they were already boarding. At least we were comfort class and could go to the front of the long line at our gate. The official time between flights at CDG was 1 hr 35min. There was a lot of walking between involved and we were nervous the entire time until we got to our gate.
In the past I always liked to get to Europe first and connect there, but I'm rethinking that as a connection within the US wouldn't have so many lines to deal with regarding security.

From all our travels we learned the hard way, put it all on one ticket and even then if you have a connection make sure it’s in Europe not the US. If it’s all on one ticket, the airline needs to find you another connection if your flight is delayed and there’s a heck of a lot more connections once you’re in Europe. Hopefully everything flows smoothly and you have enough time but you’re really taking a gamble with separate tickets and short connecting time.

This is a while ago. We flew Rome - CDG - Seattle on one ticket but didn't have a boarding pass for the Paris-Seattle flight. We had 1.5 hours which I thought would be plenty. Ha! When we got to the empty, no one else waiting, air-side Air France transit-transfer desk at CDG, the agent told us to RUN for the next flight. We did. We barely made it. There were other Seattle bound passengers on the Rome-CDG leg. They didn't make it.

A short connection without a connection i.e. not on one ticket is a recipe for needing to buy a walk up one way ticket to the US -- a very pricey mistake. Even if you can make the transfer airside - having boarding passes etc ahead, this is too risky. what if your first flight is late. It is common for domestic flights to be late. When we were doing Berlin/CDG/Chicago on one ticket I tracked the Berlin flight -- it was late 50% of the time and we would have missed the connection those days, so we got the airline to change the ticket/transfer to Amsterdam. In this case, it is all on you.

The prudent thing to do is to fly to CDG the night before and spend the night at an airport hotel rather than risking the costs of this not going smoothly. I'd pay what that costs rather than risking the bigger expense of a missed flight.
