We are considering doing a self-drive barge for our family of 4, kids age 12 and 14. We are boaters so have some experience with the idea of going slowly, enjoying the journey, etc. Are there any canal-routes that would be more fun for a family? We like the outdoors so pictures I've seen of parking, unloading bikes, exploring sound great. Also, kids are on the picky eater side, so it would be nice to be able to grab some very simple food for prep onboard the boat vs. fancy restaurants. Where do I begin in trying to figure out a great canal trip.
Also, we have to fly from San Francisco into or out of Zurich for business. I was also thinking about some time in Paris and Rome. We have 2 weeks, could do a little more if that's too much for that amount of time. Recommendations?
