I'd like to take a Seine boat cruise in Mid May. I am staying by Notre Dame. Have heard that Vedettes is the best company for this. Is this still true? Does it have tours in English? Is evening the best time for a cruise or would you recommend a different time of day? Thanks for whatever guidance you can provide.
I like Vedettes du Pont Neuf, very near to your location:
I prefer Vedettes to Bateaux Mouches. We sit up top for best views. It is inexpensive, so you could do both a day trip to see the sights better, and an evening ride for the lights (or sunset, when the lights go on). The narration is in French, but we have always had a narrator who switched to English now and then. To be honest, a tourist site map in hand will tell you what the buildings are if you want to follow along with it. We have been almost every time in Paris. It is a relaxing hour.
Take a jacket for the coolness on the water, esp. if at night. Just go by the weather. You can check when the sunset is online, on the day you choose, and pick a cruise time then. Youy can reserve online ahead of time if you want. Last time there was a small discount for reserving ahead of time. We did that on our last ride because we were showing relatives around Paris and wanted to be sure we were on a cruise at sunset. But otherwise, you should have no trouble just walking up. We did line up early for our trip because we wanted to be sure to sit up top. Colder, but preferred by us.
Have fun!
