Seeking your advice on new testing rules

We leave for Paris via Heathrow in less than 2 weeks. With the new testing rules in place, I am a bit unclear and want to make sure we have it right.

  • Do we need to take the tests 48 hrs before entering Paris or departure from the US?
  • PCR or Antigen Test?
  • Are we required to do anything different for our airside stop at Heathrow?

We are fully vaccinated and boosted.

Thanks so much!

The regulations are here (in French): https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/id/JORFTEXT000044394836. I think it's Paragraph 3 that's key for most American visitors. See also Paragraph 4. I pasted those into Google Translate and got this result; I cannot otherwise vouch for it:

3 ° Any person of twelve years or more wishing to travel to the national territory from a foreign country other than those mentioned in 1 ° and 2 ° must be provided with the result of a screening test or examination mentioned in 1 ° of article 2-2 carried out less than 48 hours before the trip;
4 ° Any person of twelve years or more wishing to travel to the national territory from a foreign country must also be provided with a declaration on their honor attesting that they accept a test or a biological examination virological screening for detection of SARS-CoV-2 can be performed upon arrival.

1) within the 48 hours prior to your departure from the U.S.

2) PCR (or an antigen test if it tests for the “N” protein)

3) i have no idea what UK transit rules are

To get a PCR test in the time frame where I am, the agency that provides them quickly is charing over 300 a head for the test and insurance doesn't cover it. I hope they soon clarify the antigen tests that are acceptable. It would be great if a proctored Binax type test would work otherwise our group is looking at over $1000 to meet this requirement.

I’m confused…there is a pdf dated 12/3 for From Green/ Orange countries….do we on arrival to CDG also need an Antigen or PCR test exiting the plane?

Yes, you sign that you are willing to take one, but my guess is that they will use that sparingly.

Kim- is it 48 hrs of departure from my home airport or my connecting flight that lands in Paris? I’ve seen conflicting information.
Thank you in advance!

réalisé moins de 48 heures avant le déplacement

This is exactly what the order says; (the test is completed) within 48 hours before departure. Some depart on the transatlantic leg. Others depart from an interior or connecting city before the transatlantic leg.

do we on arrival to CDG also need an Antigen or PCR test exiting the plane?

It is not a matter of need. The condition upon which you enter France is that you agree to Covid testing upon arrival if asked.

Toute personne de douze ans ou plus . . . accepte qu'un test ou un examen biologique de dépistage virologique de détection du SARS-CoV-2 puisse être réalisé à son arrivée.

Thank you Kim and Tocard for clarifying those points…it’s very helpful.

Janet and Natasha…..are Walgreens available to you….some of them offer the Rapid Abbott ID Now which has a turnaround time within 15 min….it is a molecular viral NAAT test.

This is a link I found for testing at Care Now which American has partnered with in the DFW area:

https://www.carenow.com/patient-services/medical-tests/covid-19.dot

Dfw Metroplex offers a lot of testing for travel….sadly…it’s 2 hrs from me…but I do Have a Walgreens near me that offers the Abbott Rapid ID…..

Alternatives here are going to a concierge hospital ER which charges a facility fee and a medical consult fee and you’re left to pay OOP depending how they code things..the facility fee is $500.

So Walgreens it is……..some days I feel like I live in different world here.

it is 25 Euro to get a rapid test in France; here 300 or 500 are 'normal' fees for many vendors. The Walgreens near us does not do tests, but when we travel we will find one that does, I hope. Or by then it will be much clearer and maybe the binax monitored on line test will work.
