Seeking Giverny Shuttle Bus Details

My wife and I visited Giverny by car about 10 years ago. She and a good friend are heading to Paris in April and the want to get in a trip to Monet's Garden. They do not want to use a tour from Paris as our previous experenice showed the importance of being at the Garden at opeing time to avoid the crush of the tour busses later in the morning. They also are not willing to drive and a private car is more than they are willing to spend.

I have searched through prior posts and it's clear that they can take the train to Vernon and then a shuttle bus from Vernon to Monet's Garden. However, all the posts I could find only said "the shuttle bus". Does anyone have information on a website with details? They want to ensure that they are standing at the entrance a few minutes before opening with pre-purchased tickets in hand.

Or, should I suggest the spend their first night in Giverny and walk? They will be coming from London via Eurostar, so the could make their way out to Giverny, spend the night, and then go in to Paris after they have seen the Garden?

As you step out of the station there is also a tourist train. So when you exit the station head right and hopefully the bus will be there as it should be as they coordinate with the train schedule.

Whether or not they spend the night, I hope they will allow time to walk around the town a bit - it’s very pretty and quiet. The Sainte-Radegonde Church has the graves of Monet and family.
Also wanted to note that it’s an extremely long walk from the Vernon train station to Giverny, although it doesn’t look so much that way on the map (I know this from somewhat alarming personal experience), so they really do need to take either the shuttle bus or the tourist train that Janet mentioned, rather than attempting it on foot.

Thanks for this info and your tips!

I will encourage them to see the town itself.

When we were there last fall, there was no shuttle bus (we had done this 20 years ago and there was a bus). This time there was only a tourist train which filled up and slowly made its way with some commentary to the Giverny parking lot a few blocks from the gardens. You buy tickets on line and just hop on the bus. when it is full it is full -- the old bus you could stand on as it filled, but the tourist train, when the seats are full it rolls. This is important on the return, so plan to get back a few minutes before time as it did fill up when we were there -- we luckily got there in tme for a seat.

We’ve taken the metro/train to Giverny each of the past 2 springs. In both cases, when you come out of the station you’ll see the small amusement park like train or the bus. Both take you to the parking lot across from garden entrance which is a short walk (including a tunnel under the street) if you like. Train is a fun slow ride

Wow. We saw no sign of a bus at either the Vernon station or the parking lot at Giverny so were not aware both existed. We saw no option but the train -- I would prefer the bus.
