How long does it take to get through the security line at Versailles?
We will plan to visit the palace later on in the day. Gardens and the queen’s hamlet first.
Just trying to gauge my travel and arrival time.
Many thanks!

no way to tell. i was probably #10 in line when i went in October - timeslot was first thing in the morning, and after they opened, it was maybe 5-10 minutes.
when i left around 2 ish, there were easily 100+ in line (and this is the A line, for those w tickets), so it had to have been a ton longer.
What time of year, and what day of the week are you planning to go? Those variables will make a difference. RS Guide says it is mobbed on Sundays and Tuesdays.
Since you say you want to start with the gardens and Queen's hamlet -- I'm not sure if this is still valid, but the RS Guide to France previously mentioned an entrance at the back (away from the palace) to visit the gardens beginning at noon. The advice is to take the shuttle bus from the Versailles R.G. train station to the stop near the Gran Trianon.
Others on this forum may tell us if this is still open, and if so what hours.
Also, if you decide on a guided tour ("visite guidee"), you get to use a separate entrance at the right of the courtyard. Once your tour is over, you're already inside and free to go through the rooms that are open to the public.
If we do go to Versailles - it will be the first Thursday in October.
Thank you for the feedback.
My advice - get as close to opening as you can and get there 15-30 minutes beforehand to get in line.
Just went to Versailles today….lots of people at 1pm but the security line moved very quickly!
Many thanks for all your helpful feedback!
