scheduling ride to Versailles from CDG

Edit: I'm going to Versailles from the airport, not to a Paris destination.

Original post:
If my flight is due to arrive at CDG at, say, 7:30 AM, what time should I ask the taxi to pick me up? I'd rather give them plenty of time than to get stressed about taking too long to deplane and go through immigration. I surely want time to use the restroom, and probably to find an ATM to get some Euros. Should I ask for pickup one hour after the scheduled landing? Is 1.5 or 2 hours better?

Obviously I'll have no control over whether my flight might be late. Others on here recommended G7 taxi service << https://www.g7.fr/en/ >> as I want to be driven directly from CDG to my hotel in Versailles. Does G7 track your flight so they will know if it was delayed?

I do not know if G7 tracks your flight; however, I would recommend simply walking to the official taxi queue and take a taxi to Versailles. When you need to return to the airport, you can schedule with G7 then.

My daughter and I were in Paris last spring; we just followed “the feet” and signs in the airport to the official taxi queue. We confirmed with the driver he would accept a credit card and I gave him an index card with the hotel name and address on it. He keyed in the address and showed it to me on the map to confirm it was the correct location and all was good.

For our return flight, I used the G7 app and scheduled the pick up. The morning of our flight, the flight departure time was changed twice and I was able to change our pick up time - the driver was there when we needed, even after 2 pick up time changes.

I did not click on a link that is of unknown origin, but I have to wonder why anyone would recommend contacting G7 for a taxi from CDG. There is a dedicated and managed official taxi queue at the airport. Even if there is a line, it moves quickly. No need to worry about late arrivals or delays at Passport Control or baggage claim. There will always be taxis waiting at the official queue. And they should accept credit cards.

Contacting G7 is certainly useful when booking a taxi TO CDG, but not the reverse.

Thanks, both of you, for this advice.

CJean the person who said to use G7 said it's because I am going to Versailles, so it's outside of Paris. They indicated it would be more cost effective to ride with G7 than a regular taxi that charges by the meter.

The last time I flew to Paris was in 2015. My husband and I used a car service that RS recommended, that gave a discount (I think it was 5% off or something) if you showed them your copy of the RS guidebook. It was very nice. I would use that car service again, but I'm no longer seeing it mentioned.

I can't really speak to the specifics, but yes, usually the advice is to get a taxi from the official queue, but that is for people looking to go to the left or right bank at a fixed rate.

I can see that going to Versailles is a different animal, you are talking about 50 km, estimates are about 100 euro. I agree that arranging a taxi through G7, at a known rate, would likely be better than risking your chances at a taxi rank. The other option is a private transfer, both a reserved taxi or a transfer will run a premium, but you will know the cost beforehand.

There is never a need to book a taxi when departing the airport. Taxis are always there waiting for you. If you did book a taxi, your fare could increase by a indeterminable wait. Just go to the official taxi queue, follow the blue dots departing customs, give the driver your written address, and be sure he starts the meter.

Tocard, is this true even though I'm not going to Paris? The advice I got was to book G7 because I'm going to Versailles. It will be a flat rate.

I guess I should just use common sense and allow 2-3 hours after the flight's scheduled arrival time. I'm not in a rush to get to Versailles. I just don't think it's a good idea for me, a senior woman traveling alone, to take the Metro and RER to Versailles after a red-eye flight.

I have never heard of a fixed rate G7 taxi for any trips other than trips between Paris and the two main airports. You could try booking with Shuttle Inter which, I think, will cost about €130 for two people. I believe they track your flight or at least they used to do that. I have not used them in about 2 years.

JHK, thank you for the recommendation. I've just requested a quote from Shuttle Inter.

The reviews on TripAdvisor seem to focus on large family groups. I'm just one person with a carry-on.

Update: Shuttle Inter quoted 110 Euros. Their driver will track my flight's arrival time and meet me accordingly. This all sounds like what I want.
