Saturday Overnight Parking in Paris?

About 10 days until my first trip to Paris (and Europe, for that matter.)

I've been anally planning this trip for the past year, but there is one lingering question. (Well, more than one, but this one is more important. I'll maybe ask about eating snails later. :-)

I'm picking up a rental car locally on a Saturday, but will be leaving Paris for Calvados early on Sunday. I've read here and elsewhere that parking in Paris is a PITA.

I've found a few paid parking lots fairly close to the apartment I'm renting, which is in the 7th eme . But I wonder whether I might fare better by parking overnight at a metered 'stall' near the apartment. Is it true that you can park free on Saturdays if the parking area has a "yellow dot" on the local meter? Or is this a Parisian myth?

Thoughts & suggestions appreciated.

Any kind of parking on the street, especially free, in Paris is very difficult to come by. I recommend parking in a garage, such as a DaVinci garage, or another company that offers overnight parking to the general public, and just paying the fee. Hunting for a spot and then trying to figure out if you have to pay or not, where to pay, whether or not overnight parking is OK, etc., is difficult, and most of the time, futile. Make your life easy, preserve your precious time, and just find a garage.
Driving in central Paris on an early Sunday morning is not an issue...traffic will be very light...just avoid the roads around the Seine where they block off traffic for bicycles, skaters, pedestrians, etc.!

Anita:

Thanks for the reply & useful information.

I'll discuss my parking options with our landlord when we're there next week. I know that there is a paid lot fairly close by, so at least I can keep the car there overnight.

As luck would have it, our departure day is 9/27, the day of "Car-Free Sunday." I intend to get out of Paris well before the event starts at 1100.
