Does anyone have experience/contact information for hiring a private driver in Sarlat for one or two days--I would like to go to Ouradour and a few other areas in the region and do not want to rent a car. I will be in Sarlat Oct. 16-21.

We stayed at Les Cordeliers in Sarlat this May. I believe that the owner arranged car service for guests who wanted to hike in different areas and who had not rented a car. Perhaps your hotel will be able to help you with a private driver. We had rented a car.

I'm not trying to second guess your decision not to rent a car, but I do want to point out that there is a car rental agency at the far end of town (I walked to it from the center) and that the roads in that area are very easy to navigate (parking in the city was a disaster, and I got a ticket--oops!). I had a blast bombing around in a little Fiat500. It was the color of rosé!

If you mean Oradour sur Glane, it is not in the same region as Sarlat but 200km away. It will be very difficult to find a driver anyway and it would cost you more than a full week of car rental. The Dordogne and the whole region has very little public transport and taxis, the only good way to visit it is by car or bike or by hiking.
Wanting to visit the Dordogne without a car is like wanting to visit the national parks of the southwest USA without a car.
