On the off-chance someone here shares my interest in Romanesque churches, I'm seeking ideas for cycle routes in the Saintonge to see some of the more interesting out-of-the-way churches. (I don't drive.) I had thought of basing myself in Saintes and hiring a bike there so recommenations for bike hire companies and bike-friendly chambres d'hôtes would also be good. I can see train links from Saintes to St Jean-d'Angély and Rochefort, and from Bahn.com it seems that bikes can be taken on those trains: has anyone done this?
