My family and I went to France in June. I'm including a little backstory in case any of you find yourself in this situation. We found out about a traffic infraction when we had a credit card bill for 19.9 euros. We weren't sure what it was for. Eventually, we got a note from Hertz stating in its Misc Info that this was an admin fee and we may have another fee. Then we got a correspondence from France. It was all in French. Doing some research, I was able to access the original ticket so we could figure out what it was for -- speeding about 15 miles. I would like to go ahead and pay the fine before it gets bigger (the longer you wait, the more it is). I've come across this site for payment. Are any of you familiar with it or have another idea? www.amendes.gouv.fr. Thank you for your consideration.
Yup. That's the government website for paying fines. It's by far the easiest way of doing so, especially if you're outside France
We had the same thing in 2017. Yes, use the website mentioned in the correspondence from France. It worked fine for us.
The €19.9 are actually the administrative costs charged by Hertz and not the amount of the fine.
For exceeding the speed of 15km/h the fine will be 68€ if it was in a zone limited to more than 50km/h and 135€ if it was in a zone limited to 50km/h or less.
These amounts are reduced to €45 and €90 respectively if you pay before 1 month.
They are increased to €75 and €180 if you wait more than 60 days
