We will be staying in the Eiffel area and would like to visit the Sacre Cour......we are up in age and do not want to walk steep roads... we are ambulatory and can walk a short distance but could use any recommendations getting there and if there are any good places to eat nearby.....
Download the G7 Paris taxi app. You can get the taxi to drop you right off in front of Sacre Coeur. You can take the funicular down to the nearby restaurants. The convenience of the app is the taxi will arrive exactly in the place you stand. When you are ready to depart, use the app to get a taxi back to your hotel.
Due to a foot injury we used it frequently in Paris last spring including a drive up to Sacre Coeur.
Great advice about the visit especially the funicular. There is a great website called The Sacred Coeur, A Visitors Guide and it explains hours, entrance etc. Be aware the extremely aggressive scammers in the area and pickpockets. Keep your valuables extremely close. A favorite scam is the bracelet where they get you to agree to try on a bracelet to see how it looks and then they want payment. A very firm NO usually works to drive them away. Also try to go on a sunny day the view is fantastic. Good luck..
Here is a route to Montmartre, using the Métro, that avoids the bracelet guys completely. It's also a lovely stroll in its own right.
Get off at the Lamarck-Caulaincourt metro station and walk up the stairs to Avenue Junot. This gorgeous sweeping avenue is full of art deco residential buildings. Turn right if you want to check out some of the buildings or turn left and look for the sign to the cemetery (St Vincent). If you have time some famous people are buried here. Go along Rue St Vincent - Lapin Agile is here opposite the little vineyard. Turn right at Rue du Mont St Cenis and left at Rue du Chevalier de la Barre which will bring you out at the back of the Basilica. Go down the side street to the front of Sacre Coeur to see the view which will take your breath away.
... we are ambulatory and can walk a short distance...
Based on your words, take KD's advice and take a taxi.
