Runner, running in France

Hello everyone,

I started running last summer, and I would like to keep up with my running while I am on vacation in England and France. My friend and I will be in England (London, mostly) for about 3 days, but the rest of our trip, we will be in France (total of about 10 days). I'm planning on running in the early mornings about 3 miles each day (6 am). The cities we are planning to be in are Paris, Reims, Monaco, and Nice.

Most of the places we are staying don't have treadmills; plus I was thinking this would be wonderful way to see the cities!

Are they good cities for running? How is running as an exercise viewed in France? Same questions for London also!

Thanks!

Both Lonodon and Paris are great for running and every time I go I see more runners. Both of them have great parks to run in. Heck there's even a running tour of Paris.

One of the challenges of running in Europe is that the streets and sidewalks are typically much narrower than in the US. That said, I have always had great running experiences in Europe. Paris has some great places: Tuileries and near the Louvre, Luxemburg gardens, and Champs du mars near the Eiffel Tower. I know that you said three miles/day, but depending on your hotel location, I would try to run to one of these green spaces. It was great running in the Jardins du Tuileries with no tourist lines and just a few other runners.

I know that I ran in Reims a couple of times, but cannot remember exactly where I went.
The place to run in Nice is along the water; there is a cycling/pedestrian lane that runs parallel with the sea. At 6 am, you will have no problem with traffic on your runs.

My impression in Paris is that you see relatively few people running in the street, but a lot in parks. Running in the street is rather more common in London.

Running on Hampstead Heath in London is nice because it's a huge area with many trails, some with fantastic views over the city. I also like Kensington Palace Gardens and Hyde Park - they're connected and have lots of paths for running.
In Paris running along the Seine, on the quay that is below street level, is really nice. Where the quay disappears there are stairs up to street level - you can run for miles!

Great advice, thank you! I will have to look into parks mentioned above.
