Rue des Martyrs in Paris

I recently read Elaine Sciolino’s “The Only Street in Paris” about the Rue Des Martyrs!

In her book which was published around 2015, she talked about the street being closed to only pedestrians on Sundays. I would like to know if anyone has recently visited the Rue des Martyrs and this is still occurring?

We were there last month on a Saturday and vehicle traffic was being restricted; only the bus and taxis were allowed through.

Oooh; thanks for mentioning this book. I’m staying in the 9th in November and am looking forward to explore Rue des Martyrs.

And on other days, rue des Martyrs is now a 15 mph zone with a very narrow roadway, so traffic has become minimal. I would go whenever is convenient for you; it combines well with visits to Montmartre, the Opéra area, and the covered passages around the Grands Boulevards.

Balso, I believe many of the small food shops (which is a primary reason to go there) along rue des Martyrs are closed on Mondays so that might not be the best day to go?

Indeed, some (not all) food shops are closed on Sunday PM and on Monday - this is true all over Paris, so I forgot to mention it!
