We've just rented an apartment in this neighbourhood and love the area. Good access to metro and RER. Lots of small restaurants and shops, and a good selection of food on the market street of Rue Daguerre. This is a very typical Parisian neighbourhood and appears to be very safe.
Are you asking for feedback?
I'm just providing comments and a satisfied experience to other readers. Perhaps this should be in another area?
No, not at all. Just curious. Nice that you have found your own piece of Paris.
Indeed, proof that civilization exists beyond rue Cler. Glad you found rue Daguerre. It used to be our shopping street.
I live nearby rue Daguerre. Aside from a terrific cheese shop, an old brasserie which serves good wine and Monoprix, I have pretty much given up on the street. It's become too much like rue Cler.
Safe is the norm in the 13th and 14th arrondissements. You have nothing to fear except for some stinky cheese.
I find that the Auguste Blanqui market is much better, and there's a terrific boulangerie just on the corner where the market begins.
@chexbres
What is the name of the brasserie that you recommend? I'm going to be staying in that neighborhood next week and would love some recommendations.
Thanks
It's right across from the cheese shop - Maison Peret.
The food is pretty terrible, but the wine is good.
I'd go to one of the locations of Cantine du Troquet, instead. The food is very good and good value for the money. They also have good wine.
There is one on 89 rue Daguerre.
Thanks for the tips!
Good one, Bets! There is life beyond rue Cler indeed! We liked rue Daguerre and the nearby cemetery. Denfert-Rochereau has a convenient RER station, direct line to CDG, plus the entrance to the catacombs if you're into them.
There is also the market at Edgar Quinet to consider - Wed and Sat mornings - just alongside the cemetery.
