can Anyone recommend a favorite hotel in the Rue Cler area of Paris?
The only one I have stayed at is Relais Bosquet, which I liked very much. We had a view of the top third of the Eiffel Tower, and the breakfast was good. Rohm was also spacious by Paris standards.
We stayed at the Cler last month for 6 nights. We liked it. Very clean. Friendly staff. Quiet.
I'd stay in a more central part of the city; Rue Cler is a fairly inconvenient location. We once stayed there at the Grand Hotel Leveque and it was simply the worst hotel we stayed at in Paris (we have been to Paris a couple of dozen times). This was long ago and presumably the place has long sense been renovated and perhaps has more competent staff.
We like Henri IV Rive Gauche near the river in the Latin Quarter for short stays and for longer stays we usually book in the 14th near Edgar Quinet/Vavin metros for a balance of 'out of tourist hell but still convenient'.
Despite the naysayers, we like Rue Cler very much and have stayed at the Relais Bosquet 4 times. Be sure to “friend” them on Facebook and you will receive complementary breakfast. The staff is very nice and it is quiet. We found the lowest price rooms to be a bit too tiny so we splurge for a superior room. Maximum stay for us has been 4 nights. Any longer than that we get an apartment.
I just stayed at Hotel Muguet is was a very nice old school - there's a shoe polishing machine in the hallway by the stairs - establishment with quiet rooms.
We stayed at Hotel Champs du Mars years ago and it was charming with tiny rooms and a good staff.
They whole Rue Cler area has become more touristy and prices have really gone up so I would look around. I think it is a fine area to stay in but I do agree with the poster who said it's may not be ideal. Hotel Muguet is closer to the Metro stops than many Rue Cler places since metros are lean in this area, but it is only one metro line. It's convenient for crossing the river and changing to the Right banks lines for Louvre etc but not great for other areas. In my mind the perfect place to stay is one with some local charm and convenient places around you - little store, coffee places and a good Brasserie - and close to either two metro lines or a metro station where two lines meet going in different directions.
The longer they stay the more important the transportation. Rue Cler area is fine for a quick stay - it's convenient to Eiffel Tower and the line that runs to the Louvre and some of the bigger museums and sites. If you're staying longer and/or not doing the top touristy things you can probably find more value and convenience in another area.
Have a great trip,

Tod, i first went to rue Cler in 2001 to check out Rick’s obsessive hype about it. It was packed with American tourists carrying his book even then. Has stayed the same imo, as my favorite restaurant is close by and i pass by rue Cler a few times each year.
Thank you so very much for your posts. We have decided to stay more centrally located.
nbuck, good choice. Notre Dame is the center and heart of Paris, so as close to ND as possible will be the most central.
Yes, you can take the mêtro anywhere, but i like to walk out the door of my hotel and already be in the center.
If you are a budget traveler, see the recent thread about Opera area hotels.
Sorry you received such negative, and unwarranted feedback. I’ve stayed at The Relais Bosquet and had a wonderful trip. I also stayed at the B hotel Montmartre. If you are willing to take the Metro, you can get anywhere quickly.
Another vote for Relais Boquet. We have stayed all over Paris, and this is one of my favorite hotels and recommend it all the time. Very friendly staff, nice rooms, great location, and great neighborhood feel. Not touristy as all claim. Sure Rue Cler street has tourists, but it also has locals. We have had lots of meals along Rue Cler sitting aside locals galore. The area is predominately residential and there are several local groceries, laundry, shops, etc. every which way. After reading comments on this board, I stayed away from the 7th for a long time. Looking for a change, we gave it a go, and stayed at the Relais Bosquet I fell in love with it and the 7th. I find it very walkable to lots of areas. As mentioned above, make your reservation on their Facebook page and you can get free breakfast.
I have stayed at the Hotel Beaugency twice, the last time i stayed for 22 nights. Staff is very friendly and hotel is very clean and comfortable. I have also stayed at Hotel Londres Eiffel which is between Rue Cler and the Eiffel Tower. I enjoyed it and It is slightly upscale from the Beaugency but i did return to the Beaugency for my next trip because i liked it so much .
Hotel 7 Eiffel is a nice modern design hotel.
Not trying to be negative but having been to Paris eight times my personal experience says stay close in. The times I've stayed in the Marais district I've been most happy. I think I'd be nearly as happy with Latin Quarter but have yet to stay there. Ile Saint Louis would be great, if I had the budget. Other trips I've stayed near Republic, Montmartre and Jussieu and haven't been nearly as happy with the location. In Montmartre I felt isolated (but others really like the area).
While you can get anywhere on the metro, you're less likely to take a metro to the center for the day's activities then take another metro trip into town just to enjoy an evening stroll in the center, so you end up missing one of the best parts of Paris. It's easy to assume staying near the Eiffel Tower is "central enough" but it's really not close to most of what you want to see and you will likely do less because of it.
Well said Brad.
I'd like to hop on this page also for recommendations for hotels near Rue Cler. I have been to Paris many times, and we are curious to stay in this area. That said, what recommendations do folx have for hotels beside Relais Bosquet? any experience with Hotel La Bourdonnais? Please and thank you. :-)
While I have stayed in other areas of Paris, I have stayed on or near Rue Cler several times and I enjoy the area very much. I don't see nearly as many RS guidebooks toters as others here report; mostly folks who live here walking their dogs, doing their shopping or dropping off/picking up their children from school. My last stay was at Hotel Beaugency and I enjoyed my 10 days there a lot! Next month I will be at the Londres Eiffel (tour hotel) with my granddaughters. I've never stayed there before but as I say, I do like and know the neighborhood so I am looking forward to another stay there. Have a great time in Paris. No matter where you stay, you will enjoy the this amazing City!
Can personally recommend the Londres Eiffel and the Hotel L'Empereur near Napoleon's Tomb. Stayed at both hotels several times; great location, helpful staff members. I like the area near the Eiffel Tower and Rue Cler. We're active and walk everywhere from the 7th.
Tots1954 - I've never stayed at the Hotel La Bourdonnais but have heard positive reviews from a co-worker who stays there. Good location.
Glad to see your recommendation for Hotel L’Empereur as i have reservations there for this fall.
I ha d never stayed in the Rue Cler area - I like a few others like to walk out my door and be near the river for evening walks - and if you stay anywhere in the 4 th ( Marais) 5 th ( Latin quarter ) or 6 th ( st germain) I think you’ll be happy , not too far from river , this is especially true for shorter visits or first time visitors . Many other areas are lovely - it’s just these are most central . In each area you can of course find busier more touristy streets , or quieter streets .
If you are a first time visitor and a tiny bit nervous , I can recommend the Hotel Le Regent , choose their deluxe rooms as their standards are very small ( not unusual for Paris but often surprising for us from other countries ) . The staff there speak English very well and are super helpful with things like printing out airline or train tickets etc . It’s a very central area in the 6 th - with a bank machine right next store ( which I like as I can take a wad of cash out and store it in hotel safe only taking one days cash out with me each day ) . The desk is manned 24 hrs a day , so you feel very secure . Many cafes and shops around you ( not unusual for Paris of course ) . Good ac ( important for warm month visits and not always available at other hotels )
We also like the Hotel Diana - in the 5 th , rooms are small - but staff is very helpful and while it’s near the touristy bustling area it’s not right in it so quieter at night . This is a budget moderate hotel - but also has good Ac and an elevator .
Have been to Paris 3 times.....and I think each visit warrants you deciding where you want to go this time and what you want to do.....our first visit we did everything touristy and we stayed at Hotel L’Empereur near Rue Cler. It was perfect for first time Paris visitors. We became proficient at using the metro and caught it right there near our hotel to go anywhere and everywhere a tourist should go in Paris. Rue Cler was very friendly and manageable for first-timers.......breakfast every morning at a bakery there, laundry services, grocery store, AC in our hotel that record hot summer, the Eiffel Tower close by.........perfect for us though a good walk when we did not use the metro. The next 2 visits we wanted to be more centrally located......and found rooms in the Marais and on the Ile St. Louis. We now prefer the more centrally located spots as we love walking in Paris instead of using the metro and like seeing the city as we explore its streets. Rue Cler to me is prefect for a first-timer.......get your bearings, friendly little neighborhood and everything you need to explore this new amazing city.
I"ll join in with fellow Clevelander Donna and recommend Hotel L'Empereur. Stayed there twice, most recently in September 2017. Great staff, nice rooms, close to Metro. Sure - its a bit of a walk to a lot of the sites, but its a walk IN PARIS! And often alongside the Seine. Nice walks to be certain!
