We will be ending our trip in Marseille the beginning of June and are only scheduled there for 1 night. Should we plan on another night or so in the area? We will be leaving from Paris for our trip home 5 days later so we have some flexibility, however plan on a couple of nights in Paris. Where would you spend the additional time?
Thanks
Dona
Hi, Dona. I would not necessarily cut time from Paris, since there's so much to see. However, you're very close to Cassis and its famous Calenques, which are beautiful, rugged little fjords for hiking, swimming, or boating.
With five nights, you don't have much time to dilly-dally. A third place won't work since it would involve two displacements instead of one.
If the Calanques ring your bell, boat tours from Marseille go all the way around to Cassis Bay and back in about four hours. They leave from the Old Port.
You can scoot up to Paris in about three hours on a no-changer from Marseilles (St Charles) to Paris (Lyon).
Thanks for both of your input. I'm leaning on spending the extra time in Paris, but will give Cassis some consideration depending on price of train( depart Saturday or Sunday)
