Route du Vin, Alsace

Favorite towns/places to stop? We will be in a car so would appreciate info on best towns to get in and out of (have heard Strasbourg is difficult), best places to park etc. We will be spending a different day in Colmar.
Thank you.

Strasbourg is not on the Route des Vins d'Alsace. The official website with lots of info is here: https://www.alsace-wine-route.com/

Three of the best places are Ribeauville, Riquewehr and Kayserberg. There are plenty more. They are all small and have car parks just outside the village centres.

Another place to visit, just off the Route des Vins is Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. See here: http://www.haut-koenigsbourg.fr/en/
This is a large castle on a hilltop overlooking the wine villages.

Strasbourg looks like it is at the end though so we are planning on ending there.
Thank you!

We stayed in Colmar a few nights, and were happy to find it much nicer than we had expected. Beautiful to just stroll around, the Unterlinden Museum for sure. The castle Chris mentions was fantastic and easy with a car. Small cafe overlooking beautiful vista as well. We drove to the two R towns Chris notes, and a third whose name escapes me. We always found parking and walked around, there were no hassles there. Roads were well signed too. Honestly they were all lovely and easy to visit. I really believe it would be hard to go wrong. We loved our few days in that area. And the food is wonderful. Rib sticking and large portions. Have a great trip and safe travels.

Yes, the 3 towns mentioned are worth stopping at. Driving into, in, and out of Strasbourg is not a lot of fun.

Hunawihr is a tiny and charming "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" town along the route. We stopped for the iconic view of a church in the middle of the vineyards. It's also home to one of the better wines in the region "Clos Ste Hune". If you saw the movie Somm, it's the village pictured here.

Yes, Hunawihr is another one worth seeing. We took walks there a couple of times when we stayed at an apartment in Riquewihr. There are several wine producers there.
