Any rose gardens that you would recommend on the route of Annecy, Lyon, Paris & Fontainebleau?
In Paris, the Luxembourg Gardens are not only rose gardens but lovely. It is huge and marvelous.
The Rodin Museum gardens have many roses; the gardens only are very inexpensive. I always visit the Rodin gardens; I have had a discrete picnic sitting on a bench there. Wonderful memories!
Enjoy.
Annecy itself has lovely gardens along the lakeside. I second the rose gardens at the Rodin museum and Luxembourg gardens, they are wonderful! Paris is full of small pocket gardens that showcase roses, especially in June, like the gardens behind Notre Dame and some small parks on Montmartre and Parc Monceau. You'll come across them if you wander around Paris.
I know this is not on your route, but for anyone else interested, there's a lovely Princess Grace Rose Garden in Monaco, in the Fontvieille section (easiest to reach by bus, rather than on foot, from the main tourist areas of Monaco). It's not mentioned in Rick's book - I found it after seeing the car collection in that area.
The loveliest rose garden in Paris, to my mind, is the Parc de Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne.
Bagatelle is the best and has a dedicated rose garden but more central and easier to reach is the garden of the Palais Royale which has a nice inner garden with lots of roses. There are rose beds in the Parc Monceau as well.
Thanks so much for your replies! The Parc de Bagatelle is the type I was hoping to find.
Each time I go to Paris, I really enjoy strolling through the Luxembourg Garden - so lovely!
