Roissy Village from CDG - transportation tips

Hello

I've going to have to spend a day at CDG in order to catch a flight back to Seattle the next morning.
Is it possible to spend the day at Roissy Village? I understand the bus leaves one outside the village but on the other side of the highway, making it difficult and/or perilous to visit the village of Roissy. There appears to be a taxi service as well (that one contacts by phone?).

Has any spent the day in the village before catching a flight out? I have a horror of airports and airport hotels but there wasn't much choice in this.

Also, is there a good way to find out whether CDG and Air France will be cancelling or delaying flights next week (in particular, October 31)?

Thanks

My experience is from years ago and maybe everything has changed. Taking the bus from the airport to the hotels in Roissy (B&B, Ibis, Premiere Class, etc.) will get you within walking distance. We enjoyed a grill restaurant there, and usually went to lunch or dinner before the flight home. I don't remember being on the wrong side of the highway. It was a pleasant walk. There isn't a lot to do in Roissy village though my husband remembers a convenience type store and getting ice cream. There is/was a tourist information office. I hope it works our for you.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am surprised that more people aren't concerned about this, as it's such a busy, confusing, huge airport with so many early flights out and presumably a lot of people having to spend a day and overnight there. I'll be at the M Citizen Hotel. A local bus will take one within a half an hour of the center of Roissy village. It's on the "other" (not "wrong") side of a highway.

We’re not concerned because if you want to go to Roissy village, it’s easy enough to take the Roissy village hotels shuttle bus that is right there where you get off the internal airport shuttle train to get to CitizenM hotel. You take a path at the Roissy office of tourism.
We’ve stayed at Roissy Village hotels and we’ve stayed at hotels where you staying at Terminal 3. There’s no need to take a Roissy town bus. There’s not much in Roissy. I’ve been there a few times.
I’d never spend a day at the airport but either arrive late afternoon or do the overnight in Paris and take a taxi to the airport the next morning, even at 5 or 6 am.

Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth. I'm in Aix en Provence and the earliest TGV to CDG arrives only 1 hour and 40 minutes before my Delta/Air France flight back to Seattle. This is the only second time in my life I'll have stayed overnight at the airport in a hotel. People have been saying it's too much of a risk to have to check-in luggage at the Air France counter and then go through security and then find the gate. The TGV trains I've been between CDG and Bordeaux and Aix (last April) have all been very punctual, however.

Do you have a preference for a hotel in Roissy village over that of the cluster of hotels near Gate 3 at CDG? I don't think there is anything interesting to do at CDG or airport hotels. Most lounges close at 11 p.m. I think.

I don’t like staying at Roissy Village because we are dependent on the shuttle bus which can fill up and leave you stranded. I’ve stayed at a dozen hotels at the airport and nowadays we stay at the Holiday Inn but go next door to the Spanish chain Innside by Melia for dinner. These two are at CDGVal shuttle train stop PR. The next stop is Roissypole with more hotels.
The train from Aix could easily be late. I take that line to CDG about twice a year and it’s frequently late.

Our train from Aix to Gare de Lyon in Paris was 90 minutes late a week ago Tuesday. Unclaimed luggage at the Marseille train station delayed several departures.

Claire and Elizabeth,

That's super helpful. The recommendations, in particular. Also,

I won't feel so guilty Thursday morning going to CDG from Aix only to have to hang around CDG the whole day/evening just to be able to check into my CDG - Seattle flight the next morning.

I wonder if Air France at CDG will be experiencing delays or even cancellations on Halloween.

It's interesting to read a traveler's comment regarding CDG being confusing, as I regard it as one of the easiest large airports to navigate. We spent the night before our return to the US at the Marriott Residence Inn, and it was very easy to navigate to our check-in and departure. And the ease of taking a TGV from the airport to other destinations in France is wonderful IME. Just different perspectives from different travelers.

Let me add that, for a bit more money, the Sheraton located immediately inside CDG Terminal 2C makes early morning flights from that terminal as easy as they possibly can be. We had a later flight, and the proximity wasn't essential for us.

Why leave on the Thursday morning, though? There is nothing to do at CDG or in the vicinity. Couldn't you just leave on the Thursday afternoon, enjoying the morning and lunch in Aix?

The next TGV from Aix to CDG leaves early afternoon but makes a stop in Disneyland. Being Halloween, my landlord has said that that TGV will be packed with families with kids. I agonized about it and decided that my peace of mind was more important than four more hours in Aix, where I'll have been for four weeks by the time I leave.

Thanks for confirming that there really is nothing to do at CDG. I am also wondering: once I get to CDG/TGV station, I can take a shuttle to the CitizenM hotel and worry about checking in the next day (morning), right? No going through checkpoints, but also no way that I can avail myself of a meal, shop, or walk around (supposedly there is artwork, somewhere) without going through security checkpoint(s)?
