How scary is the road from Foix to Sales du Salat? Is it narrow or steep with hairpin turns?
I don't know the answer, but if no one else does, I think you can at least spot hairpin turns by zooming way in on Google Maps or ViaMichelin.com.
The main d117 road between these two places is of a good standard. Not scary at all, it only crosses the foothills of the Pyrénées. Max elevation is only 2,000 ft or so. Grotte du Mas d'Azil is a very worthwhile detour along the way, on narrower roads but still nothing scary. Not a hairpin turn in sight.
We did this route several years ago. The route is not fast, but it is pretty easy. We stopped in Saint Girons along the way.
It is fine if you aren´t in a hurry.
Throwing in my suggestion is Mirepoix before going to Foix.
