Riviera vs Provence time split

Hi all -- have received some great advice here on my trip. As I book more and more stuff, I want to be sure about my split of time. I currently have five nights booked at La Perouse in Nice, with plans to take bus and train trips to Cannes, Eze, Menton, St Paul de Vence, etc. Then moving to Avignon for one night to see Avignon and Arles. I don't have more nights to work with, but I'm wondering if there is a case to be made for one more night somewhere in Provence and one less night in Nice.

I will not have a car; I just very much do not want to drive.

Factors to consider:
1. Me and my 12 year old. We are into history, art, and food. Not looking for outdoorsy activities short of walking around.
2. This is a strenuous trip -- 5 days in Barcelona preceding Nice, 2 days in Paris after Provence. Nice is the luxury hotel/slower paced part of the trip.
3. We do have a habit of getting bored and will need to have things planned to do every day. Paris is already fully booked, the two days in Provence I know we will have enough to do, plus will be on reasonably lengthy trains, so those days are done. I haven't figured out Barcelona yet, but it is a big city, I'm sure we will be fine. So it is mostly the five days in and around Nice I am worried about.

Thanks for your thoughts!

The five nights gives you four days. You already have four day trips without including Nice. I think you have it about right. There's more you could do from Nice if you think you could get bored:
Friday is a huge market day in Ventimille, Italy just over the border from Menton.
You can take the scenic tourist train up into the mountains behind Nice to a town called Tende.. This is a day trip for most people though Tende is in a National Park and an important mountain center.

Auto- incorrect wrote tender. The town is named Tende.
