We are staying in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and have been thinking about doing Rick’s Cotes du Rhône Wine Drive. It is basically a loop around the Dentelles. We notice that Mont Ventoux is not too far from there but going there would require truncating the Wine Drive and making the whole journey an hour longer. Any thoughts on whether Mont Ventoux is worth it?
It's not really truncating the loop : you drive up from Malaucene and back towards Bedoin or vice versa. It is absolutely worth it on a clear day if not too windy ; have a jacket or similar on hand as it's much cooler up there. The landscape and views are stunning, and the road, while steep and twisty, is wide enough so I do not find it scary.
However, if the day is cloudy or hazy, it loses a lot of its appeal.
If you are a TDF fan you much visit Mont Ventoux!!! If not I'd probably skip it
We spent two weeks in Malaucene last September, and I agree completely with balso.
