Restaurants in Bayeux

Hi, all-

I'm looking for recommendations for restaurants in Bayeux that meet two specific criteria-

  1. Entirely indoors, or if they have outdoor seating it is separated from the restaurant by doors that are kept closed. I am extremely allergic to cigarette smoke.

  2. Offer at least some vegetarian food (eggs and dairy are fine.)

Thanks for any suggestions that you might have!

I highly recommend La Rapiére. I don’t remember outdoor seating and they do offer vegetarian options. Reservations are a must!

Best meal we had in 12 days in France was L'Alcove in Bayeux. Excellent food and service.

I wouldn't worry about the places to eat; you're going to have a heck of a time just walking around the city without encountering second hand tobacco smoke.

We just left Bayeux and there are number of options that can work well for you. If you are going at a busy time of year, I would highly recommend making reservations, even if it is the day of. There are some restaurants like La Rapiere that I tried to book 2 weeks in advance and they were full. Others like the recommend L’Alcove will only take reservations by phone. I tried to book via email and they let me know that due to so many no shows, they only book by phone. Unfortunately, when I called, they were fully booked. Even the casual places filled up.

  • For breakfast or lunch, try Selma Alabama. They have indoor seating options and a wide variety of vegetarian options, even some vegan.
  • La Moulin de la Gallete is a creperie near the Bayeux Tapestry. We ate out on the Terrace and there was no smoking when we went. They have an inside. Reservations are a must, book at least a day in advance or the morning of online. Large number of vegetarian options.

Three nites in Bayeux (just returned) we dined at L'Alcove (exceptional), Le Pommier (very good) and the Hotel Lion D'or (also exceptional) All were booked online several weeks in advance and most took a credit card hold to confirm the reservation. Also received a text confimation a couple days in advance. WE generally dined at 7 PM and with other Americans (!) were the first throuigh the door, but all filled up before 8 PM. Yes, make reservations absolutely.
