Does anyone have recommendations for good places to eat in Montmartre? I have been there before and there are so many places that are average, or worse. I've had much better luck in other neighborhoods in Paris, but I will be spending some time in Montmartre on my next trip and I would love some good food options! Thank you.
Are you looking for a specific type of food? I am surprised that you have not had good luck with restaurants in or near Montmartre. Take a look at L'Arcane (single menu for all diners place), Le Coq Rico ("kind of expensive for what it is if you think chicken should be cheap" chicken place), Al Caratello (Italian food -- not a lot of space between tables), Les Apostres de Pigalle (gastropub/tapas type place very close to Blvd Clichy if that matters), Coquelicot (for breakfast), La Vache et le Cuisinier (French food), and Le Vingt Heures Vin (wine bar type place with good food). There are others but these are the places that popped into my head without me going back to check my trip notes. One of my favorite bakeries in Paris is Gontran Cherrier at the corner of Rue Caulaincourt and Rue Tourlaque.
Thank you very much, JHK!
I will follow your recommendations!
Le Grand Huit is just below Sacre Coeur. They were listed in Gourmet magazine a few years back, and I thought it was one of the best meals I’ve had in France. Small, changing menu, I’d call the dishes “classically prepared” if not exactly classic French dishes.
