Restaurant recommendations in 6th Arron.

Hi,
Our family (3 teens plus parents) will be staying in the 6th arrondissement, a block from Luxembourg Gardens, and would like to eat dinner out a few times, classic French cuisine, not too fancy (we won't have evening wear), but delicious and not too complicated for a family with teenagers. Thank you in advance.

A little ways to the east on the other side of the Pantheon in the 5th arrondissement is Le Volcan, which absolutely fits your desired description.

We found this part of the Latin Quarter neighborhood very pleasant. There's also a casual but traditional bistro in Place de la Contrescarpe, aptly named La Contrescarpe. Good for a late night snack.

What do you mean by evening wear? I am picturing gowns, cocktail dresses, suits, and tuxedos. That would not be required at the vast majority of restaurants in Paris. Depending on where you are a block away from Luxembourg Gardens, you may be within a short walk of Les Papilles on Rue Gay Lussac in the 5th. It is a great place. It can't get any less complicated than this: they have only one menu for all diners in the place. Another option could be Boucherie Rouliere on Rue des Cannettes in the 6th. Near the southwestern corner of the gardens is one of my least favorite places in Paris -- Le Relais de Entrecote. Why am I suggesting it? Because everyone else I know loves the place. There is always a huge line that you can miss by getting there slightly before it opens. The place serves steak, fries, and salad served by waitresses wearing old school waitress uniforms.
Also, are you willing to go to another arrondissement or even walk 15 minutes for these meals? If so, there are literally hundreds of places in Paris that will meet your requirements so maybe coming back with a budget and how far you are willing to travel for these meals will result in more suggestions.

Our favorite -- Polidor on rue M.le Prince (very close to Odeon theater) which has the standards like boeuf Bourginon on prix fixe menus of around €15-20. We hope to be there next week! French, but not stuff teens would find gross.

One of the Relais de Entrecôte restaurants might be of interest. Depending upon where a block from Luxembourg actually is, there is a Relais de Entrecôte on blvd Montparnasse just south of the Jardin du Luxembourge and a second just to the northwest on rue St-Benoît. This is one of the few restaurants where you will not need to reserve.

You might also like the simplicity of Polidor at 41 rue Monsieur le Prince, the charm of la Cuisine de Philippe at 25 Rue Servandoni, or the authenticity of la Maison du Jardin at 27 Rue de Vaugirard. All these restaurants are within a few blocks of the Jardin du Luxembourg and in the 6th arrondissement.
