Resale, Thrift, Consignment and Fun Shops

I posted the following back in August of 2020. It was during the pandemic times and thoughts were a lot of places may not have lasted. Thought would bring it back to the forefront and try again!

On our next trip, we want to focus on shopping including resale/consignment shops for gently used designer goods, as well as vintage shops and shops for the house. Can anyone please share some store names and locations you love?

It’s funny you bring this up because we had never seen a resale shop in Rijeka, Croatia, where my husband is from, ever. I’ve been going there since 1977. On our last trip, September 2021, we saw a few. I was pleasantly surprised because I like to browse these types of shops too. I still have a black, denim jacket I picked up in Weinheim, Germany at a small second hand store. I’ll be interested to read the responses.

to be clear, since you put this in the France Forum I guess you are asking about France? Anywhere other than Paris?

Ah Nigel, good catch. Mostly Paris. Will be in Avignon and Nice for a bit but mostly in Paris.

Hi JR, I happen to be in Paris right now, staying around the corner from the Blvd St-Germaine Kilo Shop and went in today. It was very neatly and logically merchandised, really easy to shop with a womens section on the main floors and equally large mens area in the basement. In addition to selling by weight, they had some new and some “vintage” items with fixed prices. For example: Denim jackets were fix-priced from 30 - 50€, a black skater skirt sold by weight came out to 9€. “Vintage” is late 90’s early 2000’s.

JR, you need to blow out your NYT cookies every so often. That is how they keep track.

I don't think deleting cookies will solve the problem these days. Switching to another browser might get you another NYTimes article allotment. That worked a few years ago, but I haven't needed to try it recently since I now subscribe.

For what it’s worth, I also subscribe to the NYTimes — I finally gave in after subscribing to their daily newsletter and wanting to read too many articles from it — and noticed the other day that you can “gift” 10 articles a month. At the bottom of the article is an icon of a present with the words “Give this Article”. When you tap on it you’re given choices of how you want to send it, including just copying the link to paste.

Sigh. I guess that makes me an antique.
