We are going from 2nd Arrond (near Bourse Metro Stop) to Versailles on Fri Oct 11 and went to RATP website. When i put in Travel Planner, getting message RER C not working? i don't read French, but this is what pops up "Dates : du lundi 26 août au vendredi 18 octobre 2019 sauf samedis et dimanches. - les trains JILL (destination Juvisy) deviennent des LOLA. Ils sont terminus Invalides et sont supprimés d'Invalides à Juvisy. - prévoir 1 train VICK (destination Versailles Château Rive Gauche) sur 2 entre Juvisy et Invalides" Got info to take #4, then #N & then optile?? any idea how much a Taxi trip might cost? my parents know there's a lot of walking at Versailles, but this seems exhausting just to get there? any tips/info very much appreciated!
it seems that the closure isn't on Saturdays or Sundays according to what you wrote. Go on a weekend?
Looks like there is work scheduled on the rail line to Versailles Rive Gauche for Oct 11. RATP is suggesting you take the "N" train from Gare Montparnasse to Versailles Chantier and then the local bus to get closer to the Chateau. Does not seem too exhausting to me.
From Bourse Metro, you would normally have to take the same metro connections to get to St Michel-Notre Dame to get the RER C to Vesailles Rive Gauche. Now you stay on the No 4 a few more stops to get to Gare Montparnasse and get the train to Versailles Chantier. There, there is a local bus if you don't want to walk the extra distance to get to the Chateau.
We already bought Tix w/Guided Tour for Fri Oct 11th, so no choice. OK, Metro #4 to Montparnasse, then #N, then Local Bus. 3 modes of transport just to get there seems like a lot, but i guess it's doable. On SNCF website it says to take Metro #3 at Bourse to Opera, then #8 to Invalides, then RER-C. Or...to walk to Metro #8 at Richelieu-Drouot, to Invalides, then RER-C. Is one easier than the other? i have no idea what distances are. Does anyone have an idea if a Taxi from Paris 2nd Arr to Versailles would be expensive? might be worth to us. Thank you so much.
How many are you? Budget 40 to 45 EUR. Its 3.65 EUR per person on the train.
Obviously, your SNCF ap will not work for your travel day. Take the No 3 2 stops to Reaumur-Sebastapol (direction Gallieni) then the No 4 to Gare Montparnasse (direction Porte d'Orleans). At Gare Montparnasse, follow the signs to Trains Grande Ligne (main line trains). There is a moving walkway part of the way and escalators up to the platforms.
At Versailles Chantier, it is about a 1 mile walk to the Chateau entrance. There is the Optile bus that will take you to the Versailles Rive Gauche station where the RER C would normally drop you. From there it is still nearly 1/2 mile walk to the Chateau entrance.
Our trip to Versailles was a puzzle also. And no information was clear at all. And I am a planner
But enjoy the hustle and bustle
Can you take Uber.. they estimate about 50 euros each way.. but remember there can be traffic etc which may affect pricing.. I dont Uber so cant help figure it..
Taxi.. I would count on 50-60 euros each way.. I looked on Fare Finder and it estimated about 50.. but I know Paris taxis price is affected by time of day , number of people.. and traffic..
I would take train to Chantiers .. and then call grab a local taxi to Palace.. I once ended up at Chantier by mistake ( took wrong train ) and just walked.. but it is a good 20 minute walk.. much longer than arriving at Rive Gauche station.. maybe too much for your parents on top of walking all day at Versailles.
PS.. there are golf carts you can rent to drive them around the grounds at Versailles.. first come first serve.
Another option will take you directly to the Château:
1.From Bourse, take Metro line 3 to Grands Boulevards.
2.Change to Metro line 9 to Pont de Sevres.
3.At Pont de Sevres, take bus 171, stops right across from the Château.
This was the classic way to the Château before the two other gares were opened in Versailles. Takes a bit longer, but involves the least walking, in my experience. Hope this helps!
The recent restructuring of the Versailles bus network makes taking the bus from Versailles Chantiers much easier. Just take bus line 1 or 2 to Prefecture-Hotel de Ville, from where the Palace is visible and fairly close.
Line 171 mentioned above also works, but it's an endless bus ride through the suburbs - not fun.
Wow, so many options. Thank you all so much. Will ask at the hotel how much a taxi is and maybe use it either to get there (tour starts at 9:30AM) or to return after a long day of walking. Merci beaucoup!
Hi, took the rer C today. There is work on the line but the train is still running. It's your best bet. The lines are unbelievable. If you already have tickets great but for those who haven't ABSOLUTELY get the passport with timed entry. Otherwise wait outside is around 1hr. We arrived at 9am. Line was down the road. Time entry is only 10€? more. We were very envious of the few people who walked straight in.
We were there in May of this year and also had the RER not running. We caught the N train Montparnasse. We had no problem. Very easy. Yes a little more walking but enjoyed the walk thru the town. It is doable.
