RER C Stations **Within Paris Reopened EXCEPT for St Michel-Notre Dame ** Update Feb 10

Edit Sat 2/10: Most of the RER C stations within Paris have reopened, except for

-- St Michel Notre Dame
That is, you can not get on or off the RER C at that station.
You can still take the RER B there or get on the RER B there.
-- Pont de l'Alma (which is closed long term for construction anyway)

EARLIER MESSAGE:
As of today, and until the waters descend, the stations of the RER C that are within Paris are closed (the RER C in Paris runs alongside the Seine and is susceptible to flooding in these situations).

Stations affected (that is, you can not take the RER C at these stations -- other lines are fine at these same stations):

  • Saint-Michel
  • Notre Dame
  • Musée d'Orsay
  • Invalides
  • Pont de l'Alma (closed anyway for construction until early 2019)
  • Champ de Mars
  • Avenue du President Kennedy
  • Boulainvilliers

To replan a route involving the RER C (for example, to get to VERSAILLES), use the RATP trip planner

You can also check the Twitter feed of the RER C line (in French) for updates, they are very good about keeping announcements up to date:

The general place to check "perturbations" (disturbances, whether closures or other problems):

https://www.ratp.fr/infos-trafic

And, if you have the CityMapper app on your phone, are using data, and input your favorite lines, it will ping you when there's a problem on "your" line(s)!!

Driving between Dijon and Lyon today and saw a lot of new "lakes" in the fields. Some rivers are bank-full. Only came across one road closure on a minor departmental road due to flooding -- not a major inconvenience.

Lots of water for the stream channels to discharge. It isn't just affecting Paris. There's been a long period of rain.

In addition, the Louvre will NOT hold its regular late opening tomorrow (Thursday), and has closed the lower level of the Islamic art galleries.

Bumping up as the river is expected to crest this weekend, either at or just above the June 2016 levels.

No leisurely walks along the quais of the Seine in anyone's immediate future! Nor Bateau Mouche or Vedettes de Paris (river cruises) etc.

Today's news -- Paris transit authorities announce that the closures will last at least through Wednesday Jan 31.

And today they've announced the stations will stay closed through *at least * February 5th.

Kim, thanks for keeping us up-to-date on what is happening. Even if I'm not in Paris, I still like to know...just in case a good deal comes along for a flight to Paris.

Can I ask for some advice? My wife are planning on going from Feb 8 to 18 for our 25th anniversary. Never been and don't know the severity of this flooding. Any advice? Thanks in advance! Super disappointed if we have to cancel but I don't want my wife and I to be miserable.

There is no water in the streets.
The cruise boats might be available, depending if the water goes down.

On the other hand, 52 baboons escaped from the Paris zoo - but the alpha male got the females - all but 4 of them, which will be captured by zookeepers.

Happy 25th Anniversary. Just go. That's my advice. The water should be down significantly by then. Don't cancel, just go. And enjoy your anniversary trip.

I agree with Diana. By then things should be returning to normal. Plenty of Paris is on high ground and not affected. Here's a good article about the flooding. Even though the Louvre has closed a section as a precaution, it is not a main section and will probably be open by the time you get there.

Congratulations on your anniversary! I can think of no better way to celebrate than in Paris (or Florence). I'm sure you'll fall in love with the city as we did.

Other than high water along the banks of the Seine, I have not heard of one credible account of actual street flooding in Paris.

Note that that list of stations includes many lines besides the RER C but ONLY the RER C is closed there. So if you have say an RER B to St. Michel, you have no problem there. St. Michel is not closed, the RER C to St. Michel is closed.

Yes, Janet makes an important clarification with her point. It's only the RER C train running through those stations that is not running. The other trains are (I know at least one reader has been confused, so I should have made that point more clearly.).

I've edited the top post to make it more clear (hopefully). Should have done that long ago.

We are planning to visit this week. With the RER C closed, can I reach these spots by Uber or taxi? Should we postpone our trip?

@brenthamman, Yes Ubers and taxis are running. There are alternate routes to just about every place that a tourist want to go to other than having to use the RER C. Please see my response to your thread on this question. Congratulations on your anniversary and you picked an excellent city for celebrating it.

Now it has been snowing, 2 nights and all day long. Watch out for slippage.

It is unlikely you will need a taxi to get most places, the Métro is pretty good, and nobody needs poxy uber.

Where are you trying to get to, Brent? There are easy alternatives to virtually everywhere.

So, it looks like the most recent closures are at least until the 10th of Feb- does this sound correct? Or has someone seen longer? RER C is a big line in our travel plans for end of February...

How so? If you are going to Versailles, you take the No 10 Metro to Javel and connect there where the RER C is running.

The RER C has been out of commission in central Paris off and on for several years. It seems like every time we have been in Paris the last few years it has involved a bus patch here, or going around to Javel to get to Versailles etc etc. It is totally not essential for transport in Paris; there are plenty of work arounds.
