Replacing prescription eye glasses in Paris

We’re in Paris for 10 more days and need to replace lost prescription eye glasses. Any suggestions for the best way/place to do this? We stopped at a place on the Champs-Élysées yesterday (Sunday) and the quoted price was 450 euro per lens + the cost of the frames. Yikes! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Therein may lie your problem.

Sunday.

Champs-Élysées

Try tomorrow in a neighborhood chain place, like Apollo.

Good reminder to us all to pack a spare pair of glasses. Hope this works out well for you.

Eyeglasses in France are horribly expensive. They use only the best lenses. My French friends regularly spend a 1,000 euros. We had lenses flown over from the States and put in our frame when we needed a replacement, not something you can do. There is a Costco near Orly, which might be cheaper, but it would take a few days.

Or mebbe think of a day trip to London. Vision Express Oxford Street East isn't a million miles from St Pancras International (where the Eurostar goes from) will do simple glasses (under 2.0 or sometimes up to 3.5) in an hour or so and have competitive prices....

Bit of an adventure but hey, adventure is fun.....

Do you have your prescription? Are they hard to make glasses?

There’s a Vision Express in the Paris 20th at 81 Bd Davout, the exterior boulevard. Thanks Nigel! Maybe less expensive glasses have arrived in Paris.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions everyone. Costco emailed the prescription and yes unfortunately they are bit complicated. I’m sure packing an extra pair is on Steve’s list so shhhh, mums the word. I’d hate for him to be disappointed in us 😊.

Grand Optical will do them with/or without a prescription. There's one at 66 Avenue Emila Zola and the number is 08 90 10 04 92.

My eye doctor told me that in a pinch, experiment with drug store readers. He actually gave me the magnification number that would work for distance for me. If you are a bifocal wearer, pick up glasses that work as readers and another pair that will work for distance

Really?

Wow.
If that is accurate I would guess, from my experience paying for my wife's glasses, that that level of expenditure is rooted more in the cost of the frames one chooses to purchase than the cost of the "best" lenses.
