wanted to rent couple of bikes from VÉLIB' MÉTROPOLE.
For two bikes, it said deposit is $300 an I am wondering if it just a hold or they really charge $300 to my card. I read somewhere that it will take about a month to get this deposit back.

I have always signed up for a Velib week pass ($15) before I go. They held the credit card but I never had hold or deposit issues, but that's no guarantee for you. Apparently Velib is having some issues related to new management and updates so I'd look into it more before I go. Also the app is convenient to find stations that are available. The best bicycle experience in Paris is to take a guided group tour with either the blue or red companies (after which you are more knowledgeable about riding in Paris on your own). The easiest Velib experience is to stay down along the river on the Left Bank.

It's a hold against the credit line of your credit card. If using a debit card the hold will be on the funds in your checking account. The hold should be released soon after your return the bikes, buy on weekends or holidays the release could take an few extra days.

We just tried Lime scooter and experience was fantastic. Kids loved it.
Will try Velib bike scooter tomorrow.
