Renting a car for drive from Montreux to Chamonix to the French Riviera

Me again...I love this forum and appreciate all of the interactions. I am interested to know if anyone has rented a car to drive from Montreux Switzerland to the French Riviera. The road we would like to follow is :
Montreux
Chamonix
Annecy
Valence
Avignon
Arles
St Tropez
Nice

We are thinking that since there are four of us, with two drivers, it would be fun. We want to be leisurly, with no time limits and if we see a village we like, we stop. If you have done a similar trip, please recommend rental company. We are Canadians.

We did this route ( Chamonix - Avignon - Nice ) a few years ago , it was great . Having the car , and Avignon as a base , visiting Arles , St. Remy , Les Baux and , from Nice , Eze Village , La Turbie was great fun . If you are of a certain age and have AARP membership , look at AVIS via AARP for decent rates .

We just used Sixt (sixt.com) to drive from the Amsterdam area to Brittany, France. The experience could not have been better with this company. Very pleasant and English speaking reps (probably not always the case) in both pick up and drop off countries and no hassles whatsoever upon picking up and returning the car.

Compare prices to pick up the car within the French border, since it's often cheaper to keep it all within one country, either at Chamonix or on the French side of Geneva airport (be sure to specify). Train travel from Montreux to Chamonix is also scenic and leisurely, 2 hours with 2 connections. Or trains run direct from Montreux to Geneve Airport in just over an hour.

As Laura says but needs to be stressed more, beware of high drop-off charges for taking hire cars across international borders. Check before you book.

You can take the train to Chamonix from Montreux. The drive from Chamonix to Annecy is wonderful. It's a great pass!
