Rented a Cottage in Provence for a Week

I welcome your suggestions. We have rented a cottage in Salon-de-Provence for a week. We will also have car. What would be your recommended day trips?

A lot depends on what time of year you'll be there and what types of activities/sightseeing you like to indulge in.

Hadley,
The sky is the limit in terms of taking day trips in Provence :-)

We were there this past June and stayed in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue & visited Fontaine-de-Vaucluse one fine afternoon. While in L'Isle, we enjoyed their Thursday street market, but they also have a large & famous antique market on Sundays.
We then stayed in Avignon and enjoyed taking a day trip to St. Remy and Les Baux. We had planned to take a day trip to Pont du Gard & Uzes but we opted to stroll around Avignon & do some shopping while eating delicious gelato! We didn't have a car, but if we had had one, we'd have liked to have visited Gordes, Roussillon & Lourmarin, among so many other beautiful villages in Provence

Have a wonderful time in Provence!

That location looks nicely centered between, Arles, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, the Camargue, and the Luberon. Rick's Provence & French Riviera guidebook provides a lot of detail for the region, more than his France book.

Les Baux and Pont du Gard. Arles is a nice stop too but parking could be difficult. I am considering a Provence trip for my wife and myself, so please report back on how it goes. (We blew through Provence in a day and a half back in 2003 and have always planned to return for a longer visit). Never been there, but based upon my research Rousillon jumped out at me as a unique stop with great hiking nearby. Rick's book on Provence + Riviera is great but I am still considering which stops are really better than others for my particular set of preferences.

with a car you should be able to visit all of the suggested places. they are all worth a visit. we spent about 5 days in St Remy and did most of them. also the village of the bories, the lavendar fields, the list goes on. fantastic place to visit and easy to get around with a car. we had no problems parking anywhere ( June)
Try doing a search ( in the top search bar) as this topic has been covered before many times.

Plenty of good advice above. We based in L'Isle/Sorgue and can pile on the recommendations to visit on a market day (Sunday bigger than Thursday; arrive early to minimize parking hassles). Also, if St. Remy and Les Baux make your list, look into the nearby: http://carrieres-lumieres.com/en/home Describing it as a sound-and-light show is inadequate, but it is difficult to explain. (Look for the real humans in the photos to get a sense of the scope of the projections.) The Chagall exhibit we enjoyed in May 2016 will likely have been replaced, but the new show(s) are certain to be equally entertaining. This was a surprising highlight of our time in Provence.

We stayed in Salon for four nights in 2015. We used it as a base for day trips - sadly - not exploring Salon itself.

We visited Pont du Gard; Aix (one day - got hit with a huge rainstorm and cut our day short); Arles, Nimes (both in a day); we drove to Manosque for a factory tour and stopped in Rousillon (a fav stop) and then spent our final morning in Les Baux (3-4 hours) with a quick stop to see the Roman ruins of Glanum along the way (about 45-60 min).

We've also visited Avignon (left me a little cold) and Uzes (not enough time to form an opinion as we were on a day tour and only had an hour) on a previous visit, and had wanted to visit St Remy but time didn't allow. Another forum fav we missed was L'Isle sur la Sorgue. I'd love to go back sometime for a week and hit all these little places.

If you are interested in markets, look into which days the towns have them. We visited the day the market was on in Aix, but rain put a damper on our visit. We did both amphitheatres in Nimes and Arles - I enjoyed the one in Arles more, but maybe just because two in one day was too much.
