We are planning a trip to Paris, Normandy and Brittany in April and May. We’d like to spend the first week in Paris, then pick up a rental car for the remainder of the trip. We’ll return the car at the end of our trip where we pick it up. Can anyone recommend a convenient place to rent the car? We think maybe taking the train to a town outside Paris, hopefully situated on the road to Normandy and yet also with access to Orly for our return flight home. We’d like to avoid driving in Paris if possible. Thanks for any guidance you can give us!

Train from Paris->Caen and pick up/drop off the car there.

Or Metro to either Porte Maillot or La Defense, outside the center of Paris in the general direction of Normandy.

Why not pick up at Orly if you want to return it near there? The autoroute takes you from Orly past Versaille and you are on your way to Normandy.

Or pick up at a convenient location (we used Caen) and drop-off at Orly ? Many rental companies will let you do that with no additional fee.
