rental car pick-up at Charles de Gaulle Paris

We are picking up a rental car after landing at CDG (Terminal 2, American Airlines) on a Wednesday morning in late Sept at Avis/Budget, also in Terminal 2. No luggage to collect from baggage claim. Any tricks/advice we should know? When we picked up a Budget rental at Orly last year, we waited in line for 1.5 hours, despite only 2 people in front of us & 2 clerks at the desk. We were lucky - by the time we checked out, there was a huge line behind us. Thank you.
