Hello, I plan on visiting Carcassonne this April 2025. I have been reading about the Albigensian Crusade and want to visit Latours, Queribus and Peyrepertuse and others. Please share your experience with renting a car out of Carcassonne? Can you recommend a rental car company and provide a ballpark car rental expense? Is it best to reserve a car online? I found two car/guide tour agencies but want to compare. Thanks for your input

Check with Autoeurope.com They will have info about which car rental companies are in Carcassone. We have found cars through them with Hertz and Avis. Other companies may be available, although there smaller the town, the fewer the options of number of companies. Do please make note of hours the facilities are open. In lots of places (except airports and large train stations) they are closed on Sundays and holidays and for long lunch hours. We always find our cars through them, as do many others here on this forum. Best of luck!

Your options for car rental may limited out of Carcassonne compared with a larger city. Where are you coming from before that ? We did a similar trip several years ago and started in Toulouse, which was a fantastic city to explore. Car rental out of Toulouse was easy and a great springboard into the surrounding area. I have had the best luck with Avis and Hertz in most of Europe.
