My wife and I are planning to rent a car in Lyon, France, and drive to Bordeaux in late April, 2017. A lot of the rental companies either do not permit you to drop off the car in a different location, or charge a very stiff penalty for doing so. the one company I have found that does not have a heavy penalty (if you know of others, please let me know) is Europe Car. Does anyone have any experience with this company, particularly how good their customer service is, how easy it is to find their locations in the two cities (railroad locations), and how well their cars function? Thanks. Peter
We recently used Europcar renting a car from Limoges to Cahors, around The Lot to Arles, L'Isle sur Sorgue and then dropped off in Marseille. Couldn't be easier and their customer service on-line, chat, and in their offices at the railroad locations. Very satisfied and would use them again.
If you rent through the US-based consolidator, Autoeurope, the drop off charge is eliminated by most of the agencies. You can compare the different rental agency charges and prices on autoeurope.com. For the past twenty years we've used Europcar rented via Autoeurope almost exclusively.
Finding the drop off location at (or rather near) the Bordeaux train station isn't too difficult, although it will probably be easier when the construction is finished at the rail station. As to pickup in Lyon, if you're flying in, picking a car up at the airport and getting out on the road is very easy. Not necessarily so easy in town, at least not at Part-Dieu. However, the Perrache rental agencies are very near the entrance to the motorway leading out of Lyon. I've used Europcar many times, mostly through AutoEurope. I have no comments I want to give about their service.
