Rental Car in Bayeux

My husband and I are flying into CDG and plan on hiring a driver to take us to Bayeux. Once in Bayeux we'd like to rent a car. Every rental site has bad to worse reviews. Is there any place in Bayeux that is reliable for renting a car? Or is Caen a better place to rent a car? Thank you for your help!

Bayeux is a pretty small town. When we contemplated renting there, we found that the locations had very limited hours and were very small (rental agency run out of a gas station, for instance).

We ended up flying from Spain to Orly at night, picking up the rental car, spending the night at a hotel, then driving to Bayeux the next day.

I would rent the car in Caen. You’ll have more options. Have your driver deliver you to your hotel in Bayeux. The next day, take the train to Caen, pick up your car, and start exploring.

Renting a car in Caen is better than Bayeux. As travel4fun said, there’s only a gas station in Bayeux where you can pick up a car and they often don’t have the one you reserved. You have to take the one or two they have. Caen has many rental agency offices right outside the train station with much more choice.

We took the train to Bayeux and did a couple of days of local experiences like a WWII sites day tour with a company and the city of Bayeux (tapestry cathedral, etc.) then rented a care from the little Hertz Bayeux Total Station. It is a bit out of the center (we walked but we’re crazy). You can easily get a taxi to drop you there. They were ready for us and it was very easy.

It is right next to a Citroën dealership and we were issued a car with only 3km on it!

I’ve rented in Bayeux at that gas station and i’ve walked there too, but it is a fair distance from the city center and most people take a taxi. The OP will have a car and driver so getting there isn’t a problem. I’ve also rented in Caen many times and found it to be much better as i said above.

I am following this thread as my husband, and we are doing the same in the Fall of 2023. May I ask who you are using for a private driver from CDG?

Very easy to rent in Caen, which we did in June. Short train ride from Bayeux and several rental offices very near Caen train station. We used Enterprise which was easy and reasonable.

Thank you eveyone for your suggestions.
I was asked which company I was using to drive us from CDG to Caen. I'm looking at My Day Trip, Black Lane and Paris Airport Taxi.
I have not booked as yet. All have good reviews. If anyone has used a driver please let me know which company you used.
Thanks again !
