I am planning on taking early train from Paris to Tours and rent a car to see Villandy and Chenonceaux for the day. Is this practical? Could I logically pack in Chambord as well?
Merci!

You might want to go from Paris to St Pierre des Corps, which is on the edge of Tours. There are several car rental agencies across from the station. But first be sure about their open hours. They will have reduced hours on weekends. Villandry and Chenenceau are on oppisite directions from Tours, and Chambord is further east than Chenenceau. The first 2 can easily be seen on the same day. Adding Chambord would add about an extra 1.5 hours travelling time, plus the time to tour the chateau. Possible, but you would want to arrive to pick up the car early in the morning if you want to have relaxed tours of the chateaux, plus time for lunch. Bring sun protection for Villandry's gardens.
What if you add in Azay-le-Rideau instead of Chambord? According to google maps it’s just 15 minutes from Villandry. Pick up your car at St-Pierre-des-corps and go to Chenonceau first, then to Villandry, and if you have time, hop down to Azay-le-Rideau (so many hyphens!). That’s the route we plan to take from Amboise. It looks doable in a day.
