I just read today that the views from the top of the Arc de Triomphe will be limited due to renovation work. Does anyone have more information? We will be in Paris in late May. Thanks!
Do you have the source of this info?
The best I can find is the last renovations ended in 2008...but there are always renovations going on, somewhere. Expect lots of scaffolding in Europe, and be happily surprised if there isn't any ;-)
It's on their website - http://arc-de-triomphe.monuments-nationaux.fr/, click on NEWS. I couldn't get it to translate that page but it looks like the work is scheduled until July 13, but I couldn't tell what will be obstructed.
Human translator here: it's to be done before the national holiday, July 14th (and the parade, wreath laying, etc.) The view of the Champs Elysee will not be obstructed by the scaffolding and the terrace on the top will not be closed at any time during the repair work, according to the News page pdf.
Thanks, Nancy and Bets! When I clicked on 'News' before my first response, it was a blank page...
From my experience, it seems like the French spend a lot of time updating their webpages - their train websites, hotels, etc., spend an inordinate amount of time being 'updated', blank, etc. Sure beats the Italian websites for causing my anti-virus software to go into overdrive 8^O
Just got back from Paris on 3/06/14 and the scaffolding covers half of the top. The view is not totally obscured. Joe
I was just there on March 2. I did not go to the top so I cannot tell you if any views from the top are obstructed by all the scaffolding. I can tell you that the scaffolding does sort of spoil the view as you look at the arch . . . but, that's the way it goes. I still got some nice pics. While In Paris I went to the top of the Notre Dame bell tower, the top of the Eiffel Tower, and I took in the views from the rooftop terrace at Galleries Lafayette. I guess I decided I didn't need to go to the top of everything. :)
It's official-Bets is now the "Human Translator" for French.
I was there at the end of March and this is what it looked like. http://1drv.ms/1iPMkxJ
The view from the top was obstructed, but you could still see the Eiffel Tower and other monuments from there.
That is one beautiful picture. Thanks for sharing it. I cannot wait to visit Paris (and London) next month!
