Renoir Exhibit at the Musee d'Orsay March 17-July 19

Who is going to Paris? I checked the official website, but tickets for the exhibit say "coming soon"...So apparently not yet. Co-organized with the National Gallery in London and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
We were at the d'Orsay in April 2024 for the special Impressionist exhibit. Would love to see this!

**Thank you Kim for pointing out that somehow I must have forgotten that this is 2026 and last year was not 2024!
Time flies when you are having fun traveling! (:

I have my ticket - I have an annual pass, so I always have a ticket!

And believe it or not, the big Impressionism exhibit was now year before last -- as it was timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of their 1874 show !!

Ohhh, like Kim, I have my ticket too! I got the Carte Blanche last October and it's good for a year so I'll go at least once.

The Sargent exhibition was last year and it was awesome. The algorithm threw me a FB post yesterday that my favorite painting of the exhibition "Fumée d’Ambre Gris" has been re-hung in its home museum, The Clark Museum in MA. Creepy that they knew it was my favorite!

I'm really looking forward to the Renoir exhibition!

Have been feeling bummed that I’m missing this by just a week…didn’t realize the MFA was a partner. I hope this means the exhibit is coming here at some point!

We'll be in Paris this summer, and I can't wait to see the Renoir exhibit! I haven't looked into getting tickets yet, but I will. We've started going to Paris often enough that it might be worth getting a pass....

Pam, the "Fumée d’Ambre Gris" is an amazing painting! We saw the Sargent exhibit at the Tate Britain... last year? Year before last, I guess. Several of us on the Best of England tour skipped a morning of tour activities to see the Sargents. Amazing!

Other Sargent fans: I've already nagged Pam about this, but check out David McCullough's book: "The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris." Kim, it would be right up your allley, too.

It's one of those books I reread before every Paris trip.

I've already nagged Pam about this,

OK! I’ll swear I’ll go to the library tomorrow! I know they have it and I’ve even written down the call number, lol. Not available from my library as an e-book, unfortunately, lol.

Now I’m wondering what they will have displayed on the 5th floor of the Orsay in place of Bal du moulin de la Galette which is a pretty big canvas.

A fun fact : when David McCullough was researching that book, he (naturally) came to Paris often -- but, fun for me, he came in several times to the bookshop where I was working and would often ask for guidance !!!

Then when the book was published, we got invited to the launch party in Paris -- and my parents happened to be in town, so they got to meet him (and his lovely wife) too, and get their copy of the book signed !!

So yes, that book has a very special place in my heart.

Kim, what a great story! I am seldom envious of people, but I'm turning bright green now!

I second the recommendation for the Greater Journey. My daughter and I both read it before our first trip to Paris.
Kim that's so cool!!

@Kim that is a very fun fact! My favorite book by one of my favorite authors…and definitely one of the reasons I originally wanted to visit Paris.

Somewhat related.
We went to the Renoir museum/house in Cagnes sur mer yesterday. It is a must-see for a pair of extra reasons: the view to Haut Cagnes plus the peerless olive grove. What a 2-fer of nearby 'attractions', that Haut Cagnes plus the above muse!
I am done. The bonus orange grove

Oh, Kim! What a wonderful story!

I did manage to heave myself up from the laptop, put on clothing suitable to be seen in outside of the house and trundled off to the library to get said book. I used the actual staff member at the desk instead of the self check out because yes, I want her to continue to have a job!

Gregg...that sounds wonderful!

Good for you Pam! Yes we do need to keep our libraries running!!

Jane - I am so sorry to have made you green !! Would it help or hurt if I told you he was exactly as kind and as gracious as you probably imagined him to be ? His wife too !!

I love where this thread has lead, and I think a Paris bookclub has been established!

In that case, KD, I strongly recommend you become acquainted with the works of Elaine Sciolino. She's written several books on Paris. My favorites are "The Seine," and "Adventures in the Louvre." Enjoy!

Thanks so much for that recommendation, Jane! I just put a hold on it on Libby. I'm very excited to read that.

And Kim, what a wonderful story! That's so interesting!
