rennes to CDG train advice/ Rennes car rental

I will be travelling from Rennes to CDG to catch a 3:30pm flight. So far I am planning a train from Rennes that arrives at Gare Montparnasse at 11:30am and then a "les cars" Air France bus to the airport.
Does this sound reasonable or does anyone have other suggestions? The direct train from Rennes to the airport is either much too early or much too late.

The second thing is that I am planning to take the train out to Rennes and rent a car there, planning to return it and take the train back to Paris. Just to avoid driving, tolls, gas etc... and hopefully see the scenery instead of the cars on the highway. Anyone know about car rentals in Rennes?

Thanks!

I don't know any thing special about car rental in Rennes, but would get a price quote from Auto Europe, as I often have. You'll drop off the car the day before, or earlier, when you arrive back to Rennes, right? You don't necessarily have to drop the car at the original pick-up location; there's usually no extra charge to use any location the rental company operates.

I'm no morning person, but I would still book the 6:00 a.m. direct TGV to CDG, in order not to worry about connections or delays. There are also two earlier trains to Montparnasse that would be safer. If you miss a trans-Atlantic flight, it will be expensive to buy a new ticket.

I've rented cars at the Rennes train station. It works fine, everything is within walking distance. The usual big firms are right there--Hertz, Avis, Europcar, and Sixt.

I agree with Laura that your best strategy is to take the 6:00 TGV from Rennes directly to CDG. That way you don't have to worry about getting from Gare Montparnasse to the airport.

Thanks for the responses. Is there anything nearby the airport to occupy my time if I get there 6 or 7 hours before my flight? By the way, the flight is just a short European flight, so may be not needing as much lead time as a trans-Atlantic one? The earlier trains to Montparnasse sound like a good idea. I am a bit worried about having enough time to get to CDG, but I am also trying to not waste too much time in airports and train stations if I can help it.

Darn it. Always give the full scoop the first time.

The original plan will work fine.

There is a direct TGV (no stopping in Paris) that will get you there by 1:10.
