Rennes & Mont Saint-Michel

Greetings...

Quick question for the experts - I am taking a train from Paris to Rennes (on a Tuesday), arriving in Rennes at 10am. I have a return train back to Paris that night, leaving at 9:35pm.

I intend to explore Rennes in addition to visiting MSM. Would it be wise to explore Rennes first before taking a bus to MSM later in the afternoon to (hopefully) avoid the MSM crowds or is the difference pretty negligible during the month of August?

Are there still return buses back to Rennes well into the evening?

Thanks in advance

Explore Rennes first in the morning and MSM later in the afternoon. It's a 45 minutes bus ride from Renne to MSM.

On Tuesdays this summer, the last OUIBus, [edit] sold through SNCF but looks like it's operated by Keolis, departs MSM at 18:20 to arrive Rennes at 19:30. Also see https://keolis-armor.com/45-Schedules-26-prices.html. This is planned to meet up with the 19:52 train departure. There's no later bus serving the later train.

Yes. Your plan sounds like it makes sense. A couple of hours in Rennes is very pleasant (you can walk around the old area and have lunch). And getting to MSM mid-afternoon will allow a lot of people to be leaving by the time you get to explore the Mont.
