We will be traveling by car from Reims to Colmar this fall. Skipping Strasbourg, are there any places of historical interest between the two cities that would warrant a stop-over? Thanks. John
Nancy is a beautiful city filled with Art Nouveau landmarks. The impressive Place Stanislaus is worth the visit.
What periods, types of history do you like? Nancy has a beautiful square but it's too new for me. There are lots of medieval towns all over Burgundy and Alsace. I really liked Haut Koenigsbourg Castle. Troyes looked interesting in Champagne, but I didn't visit.
Troyes has a large, half-timbered historic district. I really liked it. It has tourists but mostly French tourists. Refreshing and worth an overnight.
I enjoyed Nancy a lot; it would also be a worthwhile overnight stop if you like Art Nouveau architecture.
There are a bunch of small wine towns near Colmar, many of them quite touristy (Riquewihr, etc.). With a car you could probably see at least 3 of them in one day.
My vote for Place Stanislas in Nancy too, but Metz is also worth to consider.
