Reims & getting around

Hello

Planning a trip to Reims/Epernay in October. We plan on visiting champagne houses in Reims. We do not want to rent a car and champagne tours are quite pricey. Is it possible to get a taxi to take us from place to place? Or call Ubers? Thank you!

No idea about taxi’s but Moët & Chandon is about ten minutes walking from the railway station in Épernay. From the outside the building doesn’t look appealing, however the tours are interesting. Along Rue de Champagne are more champagne houses at walking distance, there is also a museum.

Think most houses are to reach with public transport in Reims, there are bus stops close to Veuve Clicquot.
A direct train from Reims to Épernay sets you back €10 and takes about a half hour.

I drove over to Reims just 10 days ago. I don't think they have Uber. Parking can be an issue. For a taxi you probably want to speak some French and use a local company.

Try downloading the Moovit app. They cover Reims.

The tours can be spendy, depending on the house. And they are pretty much sold out for the next month already. I just went to a couple of the retailers in town and bought a case of Champagne from small, less well known, houses at Vinocave, and some 40 year old Armagnac at Vintage. You might also consider looking at the local supermarkets. I got two nice bottles of Mumms at the Carrefour in Varennes for 20% less than they would cost in Reims itself.

There is very good public transport in Reims both buses and trams. We used that to get to Taittinger for our tour and then back to the Cathedral and then walked back to the station. Easy to use. There was a stop by Basilica St. Remy which is also an amazing place to visit.

I did the Veuve tour in April 2023, walked from the train station (0/10, wouldn't recommend if you're out of shape like me lol) and after the tour, I asked my wonderful VC tour guide if they would call a taxi for me (went to the Cathedral, just because it was in the center of town), they wonderfully did (and everyone is fluent in English). Given the clientele of the house, I expected nothing less.
Cost was like 10E, well worth it to me.
