Reduced rates with the RS guidebook - your experience?

I am planning our September trip to Paris and I notice that several attractions have a reduced rate "with this book." I take Rick's advice to heart and slice and dice my guidebook prior to leaving so won't actually have the 'book' with me. In this instance, I'm planning on going up the Montparnasse Tower and the savings for the 2 of us is €9, a reasonable saving. Has anyone got a reduced rate with the guidebook? How much of the book do I need to produce? I'd be interested in any experiences others may have had with the Rick Steves guidebook discount.

We take our book apart also, but we always save the cover. We have used it at hotels and they did give us a reduced rate.

Same here, took book apart, included the cover. In at least one case we got the discount by mentioning the book; we didn't have to actually dig it out from our luggage to show it.

The front and back cover should be sufficient proof.

I'm not sure every place that offers a RS discount will accept a few pages as "proof of purchase". You may have to take the entire book. If they will accept a few pages, be sure to post back here, as the information will be helpful for others.

In June, Montparnasse ticket booth staff actually made a photocopy of the cover of our book. I was surprised, but happy to save the €9.

A canoe place in the Dordogne heard that we were American and actually asked us if we'd heard about them from Rick Steves, so they could give us a 10% discount. They said all the Americans came there via Rick Steves. We didn't need proof.

I think I got one Rick Steve's discount one time. Generally, I don't worry about it because they are few and far between. Most of the time there are other options to get the same savings. Like others, I'll take only the parts of the book I need because I carry as little weight as I possibly can. Travel guides are about the only book I feel comfortable ripping apart because I know I'll buy an updated version next time.
