Recovering lost/stolen items from Paris

After leaving Pere Lachaise cemetery and taking the Metro to the National Museum of Modern Art at the Centre Pompidou, we noticed our camera was missing. It may have been left at Pere Lachaise or lost or stolen on the Metro.

What we tried: We were the last people out of Pere Lachaise that day and I was back at opening in the morning, but didn't find the camera. It was a Saturday, so I asked a guard who checked and wrote down my name and phone number, but I would like to contact the office to give them my information, but can't find any way to do that. Also asked in Metro and the clerk checked but didn't find any reference to the camera, but would also like to file a report online, as I don't speak French well enough to do it over the phone. Put a lost note on Paris craigslist offering a reward, but I don't think they use it like we do. Is there another site that Parisians use for this purpose?

Any suggestions?

Debbie, I advise you to give up on it. Sadly, the chances are slim to none that you will have success.

Sadly, I agree with Norma. Have you checked with your homeowners insurance as to whether the loss is covered - you may be able to recoup some or all of the monetary value of the camera? It's a hard pill to swallow but you most likely will never get the camera or pictures contained on it back.

Debbie,
You may have to accept the loss, but maybe there are some things you'd like to try. There is a website that talks about Paris cemeteries with the following contact: steve@pariscemeteries.com If there really is a Steve, maybe he'll have a suggestion. Also, go to TripAdvisor Paris forum and look for a Paris expert based in Paris (with lots of posts 'cause then you know they like to help). maybe none of these suggestions will help, but sometimes with cameras people like to return to owner. Also, take a deep breath, close your eyes and remember the last time you had it in your hand. Good luck!
