Visiting Nice and the south of France with my daughter. Looking for recommendations for a centric Airbnb or hotel to use as a base when planning to take day trips to the other towns (Eze, Villefranche-sur-mer, Cannes, Monaco, etc). Should we use Nice as a base or which other location is more convenient? We will be visiting in October for about a week or so.
Thanks!!
we stayed in Nice and did day trips from, there. I was happy with that decision as the day trips were so easy.
My family visits Nice every December and absolutely loves it as a homebase.
We stay at the Hyatt Palais de la Mediterranee (when I am with them - i work for Hyatt and can get free or cheap rooms there) or at an AirBnB on Rue de la Buffa (when I am not with them - this is a great location only two blocks from the beach to the south and the tram line to the north).
Hello,
In Nice, we have stayed at LaPerouse (fabulous!),
Aston La Scala (great location, expensive breakfast, tiny pool, rooms fine with nice view. Of the two, I'd stay at LaPerouse in a minute!
Hotel Mercure Notre Dame, nice room, rooftop pool.
All in convenient locations in central locations in town.
Once, we stayed in Villefranche-Sur-Mer for a week, in an apartment with a wonderful view of the bay. More village like, than city for sure.
Public transportation is so convenient in either, so touring from either will be easy.
Have a wonderful time!
My favorite base in the area is Antibes. I rented a little studio apartment through Airbnb and was very happy. Antibes is small but there is an old center area with old ramparts and dining, a marina with big yachts and a great art gallery. If you want to hang on the beach, Antibes has the best beaches, they're actually sand - which you might not appreciate until you're in the area. There is a train station on the end of the peninsula for getting up and down the coast for day trips.
Any town with a train station. In Nice, anything within a couple blocks of the tram line. I would do a wide search on AirBnB for what will suit you (and your budget) and narrow by proximity to train/bus service. Or dedicated parking if you're getting a car (which is generally not needed for day trips in this area). Have a great trip!
Thanks all for your recommendations and feedback! I am checking them all out - keep them coming!
Stayed in airbnb in Antibes and Nice in May- loved them both. Antibes has small town/ village vibe where Nice is definitely a big city with so much to explore. I enjoyed Nice so much that I only managed to do a day trip to Villefrance-sur-mer, lots of stairs but worth every minute.
