We are thinking of going to La Rochelle for 2-3 nights in July. Have heard it is a lovely town but don't really know much about it except it's a seaside village. For any of you who've been, do you have recommendations on hotels? Can't miss activities? Or restaurants? I have already researched online but really wondering about personal experiences, recommendations from any of you who've been. Thanks so much!

I can't recommend enough Hotel le Champlain. It's in a former hôtel particulier and you feel like the elite.
We ate very well there - lots of mussels.

You can take a bus to the Ile de Re.
When I visited the area in 2019, there was a small shop in La Rochelle selling artisan choolates and macarons. I don't remember the name, but it was based on the products sold. I hope the shop survived the pandemic.
