recommendations for four days of travel in southern France.

we are planning a trip to Europe in May. We have a week of biking in Germany, train ride through the Alps to Milan and then a week before we start the one week Spain-Madrid, Barcelona Rick Steve's trip. Any recommendations as to a good place to go in southern France for that week. We are planning on going to Carcassonne for two nights of that week. The Cannes film festival is also going on during that time. We have been looking at Lyon but was not sure what was open or what was available in English. Is Lyon worth visiting? We were puzzled as to why trips do not seem to go there. Any suggestions are welcome.

Lyon has the Lumiere Brothers museum, highlighting the men who invented moving pictures, and without whom Cannes might not be able to hold its festival. It’s also a foodie destination- check out Buchon restaurants, and the Croix Rousse market.

I’d suggest Avignon for 2 nights, though, with perhaps a daytrip to Arles.

If you have the time, head to the Dordogne region. It is unbelievable in beauty and lots to do. Canoe down the Dordogne river, see the Crowd-Magnum caves, visit Sarlat and you will feel like you have stepped back in time, etc, etc
